Work Experience

Work experience is “a placement on an employer’s premises in which a pupil carries out a particular task or duty, more or less as would an employee, but with an emphasis on the learning aspects of the experience” (DfEE 1996).

This programme enables young people to spend short periods of time, usually 2 weeks, in a workplace where they are able to familiarise themselves with the skills and attitudes needed by today’s employers.

Every year, we arrange approximately 4,000 placements for pupils in Years 10 - 11 (aged 14 - 16).
