Professional Development Placements |
|
A Professional Development Placement (PDP) is when members of staff, which can be teachers and school support staff, spend time in a local company as a form of Continuing Professional Development (CPD). Placements can vary in length from 1/2 a day to 2 weeks.
Placements provide an ideal opportunity for education and business to forge valuable links, for mutual benefit. Well planned placements provide education staff with an understanding of how industry and ‘the wider world of work’ operates, whilst informing the business sector about current practices in school and education in general.
What do teachers gain from underataking a placement?
- A greater understanding of the world of work and current local labour market conditions
- Business knowledge and management techniques applicable to school
- Subject enrichment
- Hands-on preparation for Work-Related Learning and enterprise
How do businesses gain?
- Helps ensuring that employability skills are reflected in the classrooms
- Supports young people learning about roles, responsibilities and the law in the workplace
- Cost-effective staff development opportunity for business employees
- Increases awareness and raises the profile of the business in the community
