"Employers have a critical role to play in helping motivate young people to acquire the skills and attitudes they need for their future and the future needs of the wider economy".

Companies today are discovering that partnerships with schools can help bring real business benefits. You can acquire better market knowledge, tap into local creativity to develop new products and gain new and more loyal customers. Working in the community aids networking and recruitment. Staff can develop and enhance skills, boost self confidence and demonstrate increased enthusiasm, loyalty and commitment. This also helps to raise standards in education, prepares young people for adult and working life and improves our nations competitiveness in the global arena.

Many companies already have well developed corporate social responsibility strategies through which their employees can become involved in a wide range of community based projects. The demand from education and the economy is such that there is need to engage even more employers in support of the governments education and skills agenda. Employers can get involved in a number of ways, be it  attending one off events or supporting longer term programmes. Ways to support local schools include:

- Offering work experience placements.
- Attending "employability skills" workshops including CV writing, customer service, interview tips or team building activities.
- Interviewing students during their "mock interview" sessions.
- Being a mentor to a student.
